Closing The Door On 2024

2024 has truly been a transformative year for us at Goodwood Theatre and Studios. A year of growth, connection, and celebration. It’s been filled with exciting milestones, inspiring collaborations, and a deep sense of purpose. We've had the privilege of supporting extraordinary artists in creating work that reflects the heart of what we stand for, and that’s something we are immensely proud of.

This year has reignited our passion and solidified our commitment to the arts. The overwhelming support from our community, audiences, artists, and council has been a powerful reminder of the value and impact of what we do. It's not just about theatre; it’s about creating a space where voices can be heard, stories can be shared, and people can connect in meaningful ways.

The arts hold a unique and transformative power. It provides a platform for self-expression, amplifies voices that often go unheard, and fosters a sense of belonging. Being part of this space—one that nurtures vulnerability, courage, and creativity—fills us with profound pride and gratitude.

We don’t take this privilege lightly. We believe wholeheartedly in the positive impact that theatre and the arts have on individuals and communities. We’ve seen it firsthand. The confidence it builds, the clarity it provides, and the connections it fosters. These moments are the heart of what we do and the reason we love it so deeply.

Our journey this year has been one of collaboration, inclusion, and mutual respect. Every role, every contribution matters. Together, we’ve created something truly special—a space where everyone feels valued and celebrated.

To our incredible staff, inspiring artists, devoted audiences, and supportive community: thank you. We feel your energy, your belief in us, and your unwavering support. It means the world, and we are so grateful to be on this journey with you.

We are immensely proud and deeply grateful to play a role in igniting creativity and celebrating the brilliance of our artistic community. Reflecting on what we’ve accomplished in 2024 fills us with joy and excitement! From supporting incredible artists to delivering high-quality, inspiring productions, to forging meaningful connections with audiences and collaborators alike—we've truly achieved something special.

It now gives us great pleasure to recap on some successes and highlights in 2024…

Our 2024 Fringe season was another huge success. We had a whooping 96 applicants and could only program 28 companies. It was then that we knew the 2024 Adelaide Fringe was going to be massive. And massive it was!

With two theatres running simultaneously with one another, we had a perfect mix of international, national and local shows with a strong focus on theatre, physical theatre and visual arts. We were so thrilled with our programming this year, it was a sublime selection of exceptional companies and artists, which was highlighted in the awards received, attendance and reviews.

During our 2024 Fringe season we were able to:

•   support 28 local, national and international productions

•   present 137 performances (26 of those to a sold-out audience)

•   host 5 Fringe award winning performances

•   deliver Little VIC LANE with over 250 people attending the event

•    nurture 318 artists

•    employ 13 staff

•    attract 36 volunteers

•    achieve our highest ever record with 7,057 people attending the theatre

Artists and companies received outstanding responses from audiences and reviewers and won Fringe Awards including:

•   Week 4 Best Dance: That’s Amore by Alchemy Dance Collective

•   Week 4 Cultural Diversity: Caught In Between by Danielle Lim

•   Holden Street Award: Trail’s End by Jannali Jones

•   Emerging Artist Award: Kate Burgess: That’s Amore by Alchemy Dance Collective

•   Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Award: Trail’s End by Jannali Jones

“The support we have received has increased visibility, visitation and vibrancy to our arts venue and created positive opportunity for community connection, cross-pollination and momentum for future partnerships and collaborations with local, national and international artists."

Famous Last Words

Following the success of our award-winning Fringe line-up, we were thrilled to celebrate our 2024 resident company, Famous Last Words, and their powerful fourth show, The Maids, created during their GTS residency.

We couldn’t be prouder of this incredible company and the deep partnership we’ve built—not just as collaborators, but as true friends.

Watching you grow over the past two years has been nothing short of inspiring. Your talent, drive, and commitment to creating bold, impactful work have left a lasting impression on us and our audiences. We know this is just the beginning of an extraordinary journey, and we’re honored to have been part of it. Together, we share a passion for crafting and presenting remarkable work that resonates with appreciative audiences. At GTS, we’re always here to support your vision and help bring it to life, capturing the hearts, minds, and imaginations of the 18-40 demographic we strive to reach.

Thank you, Famous Last Words, for your fearless creativity, unforgettable stories, and the magic you’ve brought to our stage. We can’t wait to see what’s next for you. Here’s to even bigger and brighter adventures ahead!

The Flying Elephant Company & Limelight Theatrics

At the same time in April in our Main Theatre, The Flying Elephant Company & Limelight Theatrics presented Simon Stephens’ critically acclaimed adaptation: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

This was a true success; the acting was sublime and the show a memorable moment for all who had the opportunity to see it.

This show is nominated for the 2024 Critics Circle Award and deserves to win as an award-winning production.

Produced by The Flying Elephant Company in conjunction with Limelight Theatrics with a stellar cast and production team, we are so proud to host this insightful and honest play in our 2024 season.

Also, in April we hosted the Adelaide Juggling Convention: GALA Show. The Adelaide Juggling Convention Gala Show is the highlight of the juggling festival with the best Jugglers, Hula Hoopers, Clowns and Acrobats from across Australia and the world to celebrate the best circus acts for one night in Adelaide! The Adelaide Juggling Convention is always a huge success showcasing such incredible talent for our local community audiences and creating an exciting buzz in our venue and look forward to 2025.

Another memorable performance was to help Josh Belperio say 'Adieu' to Adelaide and 'bring on Broadway.' Local musical theatre writer Josh Belperio was moving to New York City to study the Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program at Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. A fundraiser concert and the night went off!

This year we also created our biggest ever SALA Festival event with five exceptional local artists in our program including:

Simone Ridge-Cook, Stephen House, Paul Weston, Aggie Stav and Tarsha Cameron. Throughout August the venue was a buzz with many first timers visiting our theatre.

In 2025, we are excited to announce we will be headlining a new developmental work ‘Hag-ia’ with Tarsha Cameron which will include workshops throughout 2025 and culminate in a presentation as part of the 2025 SALA Festival.

We are absolutely thrilled to have The Cram Collective as a part of our Goodwood Theatre & Studios family. This dynamic and daring trio—Ren Williams, Connor Reidy, and Melissa Pullinger are at the helm of a company that is redefining the arts with their edgy and innovative approach. Their work consistently draws in a vibrant, younger, and diverse audience, perfectly aligned with our vision of fostering bold, inclusive creativity.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there! 2025 promises to be a landmark year for this partnership, as we collaborate on fresh, groundbreaking projects. Trust us, you’ll want to stay tuned for what’s coming next!

We’re equally elated about our blossoming partnership with the SA Playwrights Theatre. Supporting new South Australian work is a cornerstone of our mission, and this company embodies everything we stand for. Their recent production, a moving piece by the understated yet brilliant Sarah Peters, performed by the luminous Claire Glenn and directed by the visionary Eliza Lovell, captured hearts and earned rave reviews. We’re thrilled to announce that this smash hit will return for the 2025 Adelaide Fringe, gracing the stage of our brand-new Little Reid Theatre.

This intimate 25-seat space, named in honour of the late, great Kerry Reid, offers a unique performance experience you won’t want to miss. Tickets are bound to sell out fast so don’t say we didn’t warn you!

At the same time in our Main Theatre, the ever-impressive Marie Clark Musical Theatre wowed massive audiences once again. Utilising our orchestra pit to its fullest, their enchanting musicians and performers delivered another memorable production that delighted and inspired audiences.phen House, Paul W

And finally, we ended the year with an electrifying bang—quite literally! Our Main Theatre transformed for a modern Australian adaptation of Bang on the Nerve, featuring an innovative stage setup where the audience joined the performers right on stage. With the magnetic Danielle Lim and Sam Lau leading the charge and Valarie Berry’s masterful direction, this culturally rich and boundary-pushing production captured the essence of our commitment to nurturing emerging talent and showcasing diverse stories.

At Goodwood Theatre & Studios, we are proud to be a creative hub that celebrates bold partnerships, innovative performances, and a steadfast commitment to fostering inclusivity and connection for audiences aged 18-40 and beyond. The future is looking brighter than ever—watch this space!

We can’t forget the memorable performances of Hot Sauce Productions throughout the year. They are so empowering to be part of and we have seen many people over the years become more comfortable and confident because they are part of these brave performances. We love hosting Hot Sauce where audiences are always guaranteed a hot and saucy night!

Nor can we forget our resident company Grit Studio Collective embodies the very essence of what we stand for—growth, empowerment, and creativity from the ground up. Offering weekly performance art workshops for young people aged 5-18, Grit empowers the next generation to spark positive change. These workshops encourage inclusivity, celebrate diversity, and nurture creativity, all while amplifying children’s voices.

Aggie Stav

We are also excited to share good news that Aggie Stav, Hart Street Art will be extending her Visual Arts Residency with us throughout 2025.

Aggie is currently curating the Adelaide Fringe project Catalyst taking place throughout Goodwood Theatre & Studios throughout the Fringe.
